The Brief

Tide Construction was contracted by Vita Student to deliver 758 student rooms within a 35 storey building. Located next to the iconic Lewisham line, and part of an ongoing regeneration program for the area, the building provides students with inspirational spaces in which to privately study or socialize with friends, in addition to a large gym and private dining rooms with kitchens in which to entertain.

Having previously provided bespoke joinery services for the Vita Group, Hurst was recommended to Tide Construction and commissioned to design and install the various bespoke joinery elements for the amenity spaces throughout the first two floors of the student accommodation. With the accommodation expected to open for the new intake of students in September, it was imperative that the program was completed on time.

Project Challenges

  •  Despite suffering material shortages due to the ongoing pandemic, the project was completed by our experienced team within the 6 weeks specified to ensure completion.
  • Whilst the student accommodation had to be ready for the new intake of students in September, it was imperative that quality was not compromised.
  • With each room individually styled, careful consideration was given to the design to ensure it was delivered on brand. This involved regular workshops to discuss the bespoke nature of the elements involved in the project with specialist materials, such as Liquid Brass coatings, and unique fabrics sampled commissioned to achieve the desired look and effect.

The Solution

The Solution Working closely with Vita Student’s in house design team to ensure the biophilic design considerations followed Vita’s brand requirements, Hurst manufactured and installed, oak cladded walls, the reception desk, dining seating, and open-plan kitchens for the private dining areas in addition to comfortable seating and benches for the communal areas and gym. To achieve the desired contemporary interiors required throughout the space, a range of quality materials were used in the design of the joinery elements including, unusual marble, HIMACS and Havwoods solid surface addition to natural wood and living walls.
