Brief
Hurst were appointed as principal contractor to deliver the refurbishment of Parklane Plowden Chambers in Leeds. The existing workspace required repurposing to create welcoming areas for client meetings and to encourage staff back into the office.
Hurst were selected for their ability to build on the client’s vision, introducing new ideas and more effective ways of working.
Result
Working closely with architect Bowman Riley, Hurst delivered an open, collaborative environment meeting the professional and social needs of clients, chambers members and staff. The space now offers flexible, collaborative spaces alongside secluded areas for focused work or private consultations.
Careful management of complex site logistics ensured the refurbishment was completed on schedule and with minimal disruption in a busy city centre location.

Challenges
The building was landlocked with no external space for skips or deliveries. Hurst resolved this through detailed logistical planning and staged deliveries.
All windows required replacing within a restricted city centre footprint. Footpath licences were secured, and works carefully coordinated to minimise disruption.
Solution
Hurst delivered a complete workplace refurbishment, reconfiguring the chambers into a modern and functional workspace. By replacing outdated cellular layouts with open, flexible areas, the scheme introduced a welcoming reception, discreet glazed boardroom, social and collaborative zones, and a roof bar providing a distinctive amenity. The result is a professional yet relaxed setting that supports staff returning to the office while enhancing the client experience.
