Hurst Stores & Interiors worked closely with intu’s interior designer to provide a seating spectacle that filled an events area but could be quickly and easily removed.

It was to be a new desirable and iconic meeting spot but not so comfortable that people would dwell too long.

Hurst put forward an oak seating design in which the spacing between the timber slats was carefully configured to achieve the requested level of comfort. A method of lifting the units was incorporated into the design whereby the maintenance team would not need to lift them manually.

Hurst were brought in to review and comment on the cost plan with a view to creating a design which was both achievable and deliverable in a reduced timescale.

With new outlets offering more casual options, including grab-and-go and fast food, the layout was adapted into a more natural and sociable space, creating a big change in both tone and ambiance: lots of natural elements and a mix of food kiosks for a quick bite to eat, alongside sit-down dining experiences perfect for family outings in a space that feels different to the main mall.
